Framing Modernism: Architecture and Photography in Italy 1926-1965
Fino al 21 giugno è aperta alla galleria Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art di Londra la mostra Framing Modernism, Architecture and Photography in Italy 1926-1965. Presentando l'evento, il sito della estorickcollection riporta: "Despite recent studies, the history of architectural photography remains in its infancy; in particular, little work has been undertaken on the photography of Italian Modernism. This exhibition complements recent case studies on the Czech Republic and Hungary as well as other, more general surveys, to paint a clearer picture of the often shifting but symbiotic relationship between the two disciplines. The selection of over 100 period photographs has been drawn almost entirely from the RIBA British Architectural Library Photographs Collection. It has been curated by Robert Elwall – one of the leading writers and experts on the interrelationship between photography and architecture – and Valeria Carullo, Assistant Curator in the Photographs Collection of the British Architectural Library".
Su bdonline un articolo di Thomas Muirhead mette in rilievo anche la figura di Pagano: "Some images are by great architects who were also great photographers, like Giuseppe Pagano, a major figure in Italian modernism whose fine 1935 study of vernacular Sardinian farm buildings illustrates his passionate mission to reactivate architectural history, not for its own sake but so that it could influence modernism. As Robert Elwall and Valeria Carullo explain in their interesting essay in the catalogue, rather than just taking photographs Pagano was looking for “a new way of seeing”."
La mostra dovrebbe essere trasferita nel corso dell'estate all'Istituto italiano di cultura di New York e, in seguito, al MAXXI di Roma.
